So, I took the T to the Boylston T Stop to walk to Chinatown for my interview. As I was walking out onto the street from the subway I saw a bunch of guard rails, and the whole section in front of the stop was cordoned off. When I saw all the fans in Celtics shirts and gear on the street lining up (It wasn't even 9:30 yet) I realized that today was the Celtics victory parade!
People were still lining up after I got out of my interview at 10:30a. Since I was thirsty I went to Dunkin Donuts to grab a coffee coolatta and decided I would just stick around and watch the parade. I was mostly curious as to how everything would go down-and thought it would be an interesting cultural experience. Plus, parades are always exciting-and its a unique opportunity since who knows if I'll ever live in a city again where the sports teams are doing well. lol...I wasnt sure if there was going to be craziness -not that Ive never been in the midst of an excited crowd before. But I think mob mentality is fascinating and its always interesting to see-even though it can be annoying sometimes.
It was actually pretty tame I thought. I guess it would've been more interesting the night of the win. Anyway, one thing that did annoy me, though was a couple of times a group of cops drove through the parade route on bikes and there were people that kept booing. I dont know, its not like I love cops or anything, but I think ever since I started teaching I have become more sensitive to that sort of thing-i.e. where there's a person who dedicates themself to serving others but those people dont appreciate it at all. Or like, people who are put in a disciplinary role- for the good of others-and people just resent it. Its like, theyre just trying to protect you, gosh! idiots. A couple of other people (and me as well) started cheering to drown out the boos after a while.
One funny thing though, was people were throwing a beach ball around and a couple of cops stole it and one held it down like a football and had another kick it-Charlie Brown style. lol. Everyone enjoyed that. But not when the cops ending up just
confiscating the beach ball later! lol...
confiscating the beach ball later! lol...It was surprisingly not too much of a hassle getting home either. I was taking the T back to Kenmore station and we ended up being stuck between Boylston and Arlington (in the train!) for about 20 minutes. That was the only major thing. Once I got to Kenmore I was able to catch the bus, no problem. What was annoying was that after downing that coolatta I had to use the restroom and once again could not find one! That sucked. Had to wait til I got home. Not that youre at all interested in any of that...
anyway, here are some more pics from the parade. All I had with me was my phone cam so they arent that great-but its better than nothing I suppose!
